How can I join Student Senate?
Elections are held at the beginning of every school year. If you miss that election, keep your eye out for posters or information on the Student Senate bulletin boards regarding open positions on Senate.

What is a proxy?
A proxy is a student at UMF who fills in for a senator who cannot make a meeting. This is a good way for students to learn more about senate without joining senate full time. For more information, stop by the office and ask one of the senators about becoming a proxy.

How can I start a club?
To start a club you must find a group of students interested in the club, and create an exec board. Typically, before you come before senate to start the process, you want to have a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. It also doesn't hurt to have an advisor in mind as well. After you have these people in place, get in touch with our OCA Katie Melanson or Parliamentarian Emily Behrends and they will walk you through the process to begin forming your club.

What is the process to request funding from Student Senate?
To request funding from senate, not already in your budget, you must put together a proposal and bring it before the Financial Affairs Committee (FAC). They meet weekly in the Senate Office. To get placed on the agenda for the FAC meeting you need to email your proposal 48 hours in advance of the committee meeting to umfstudentsenate@yahoo.com. After FAC has reviewed your proposal with your club members that attend the meeting, it will be up to you to revise your proposal and resubmit it. If the revised version is recieved 48 hours in advance of the Student Senate meeting (Wednesday at 8:00 pm) you will be placed on the agenda for that week. For more information, contact the interrim OFA Ben Austin.
